EMERGENCY LIGHTING

One of the concerns of an emergency most especially at night is lighting. Be it an earthquake or a typhoon, lighting will be needed after such calamity. When a strong earthquake hit Haiti, one of the concerns for the rescue was lights. Rescuers had to use emergency lights to search and find survivors. Since they were using them for a good number of hours, they had to recharge them. The problem was electricity. With the help of the different countries, power was restored and the rescue efforts did not stop. As the rescuers searched for hours, their emergency lights started to them. It was like some of the bathroom lighting that we see in the movies. Air was also a concern. It was difficult to breath inside the rubbles. One of the survivors recalled that he was praying and hoping in the dark that he will be rescued soon. Luckily, there was food because he was inside a convenience store when the earthquake. He was looking for light even just a flicker of it. After 24 hours buried in the rubbles, he was rescued. When a strong typhoon hit the Philippines in 2009, electricity was the top concern not only of the rescuers but also of the residents. Power was restored only after three days. The streets were flooded. There was almost a shortage of food and potable water. Emergency lights were used but they went off after several days. The emergency lights in the building which automatically turned on after a power outage also went off after several hours. Nonetheless, without this emergency lighting, things could have been worse. Thanks to this invention.
